Fund Raising Guidelines

Our non-profit status makes donations to our group tax deductible (check with your tax professional for details.)

Cascade High School Band and Color Guard Boosters is a private non-profit corporation. As a private non-profit not connected to or affiliated with the school district or the high school itself, we must adhere to some specific fund raising guidelines.

We can't do any fund raising at or through Cascade or any other district property. We can not advertise our fund raising activities through the school or district. However, as a private group we can raise and disperse funds as we see fit within the guidelines of our non-profit status. This also means that our band students can be involved in the fund raising process.

Corporate & Company Matching Programs

Don't forget to check with your company regarding their matching program. Many companies will match cash donations as well as volunteer hours. Some companies will also match employee purchases that you make and then donate to boosters.

Microsoft employees are entitled to a cash matching for volunteer hours. Boeing specifically excludes booster groups from their employee matching program but you may select us for your automatic donations.

Fund Raising Goals

This year, in addition to operating costs and truck repairs, the Boosters have funded new trumpets, Drum Major Camp, cooking equipment, jazz band attire, wind ensemble attire and website upgrades. Boosters is also working to meet the need for new marching uniforms. In order to meet this need, we need to raise $40,000.00. The Boosters have designated $10,000.00 toward new uniforms reducing the amount we need to raise to $30,000.00. The following information outlines the fundraising events organized by the Boosters and how that money is/will be used.

Paypal

Boosters has set up a non-profit paypal account. This will allow interested parties to make a tax-deductible contribution through our website. Our non-profit tax ID number is not provided with the paypal donation receipt, but will be provided upon request.

Auction

In past years the proceeds of the Spring Auction were divided among participating families using a point system and deposited to their individual student accounts. Since the discovery that individual accounts were in violation of our non-profit status, they have been dissolved.

The 2009-2010 fundraising auction was held on April 3, 2010. Proceeds from the auction were used to fund much needed new uniforms.

PSFOB

Puget Sound Festival of Bands is the Booster's largest annual fund raiser. Money raised at this event is primarily used to cover annual operating costs, including but not limited to:

  • Truck and Trailer Expenses - repairs, maintenance, driver, insurance, license fees, etc.
  • Awards, Appreciation and Banquets
  • Website - hosting, domains, etc.
  • Boosters Operating Costs - corp. fees, insurance, software, legal fees, etc.
  • Reserves - related to above and for fund raising activities.
  • Emergency Funding - urgent needs that arise for the band not previously budgeted
In the past, the sale of program ads and trophies were applied to the student account of the procurer. As it was determined that individual accounts were in violation of our non-profit status, they were dissolved. This year the proceeds from the Ads and Awards sold for PSFOB are being applied to the new marching uniform fund. Additionally, the proceeds from our first PSFOB bake sale will be put toward the purchase of new marching uniforms.

Spirit Wear

10% of all spirit wear purchased is returned to boosters. These proceeds are added to boosters undesignated funds.
